Well, you may have noticed that we have been "off-line" for a little while now! Over the past several weeks we have been a little busy and unable to blog...daddy (Pastor Chad Everson) had surgery. You know, it is not until you go through these types of situations that you realize what an impact it has on children. While Chad was preparing for surgery, we were also preparing the kids for why he was having it and what it would be like for him. When the surgery took, literally, all day long, the boys were growing more and more anxious. At one point, one of the boys asked if daddy was going to be so "unconscious" that he wouldn't even know who they were. Just a moment later, Chad is being wheeled down the hall to his hospital room and, of course looks terrible. As the boys are both wide-eyed, Chad looks directly at them and says "Who are you?" and smiles - immediately both boys laugh and are set at ease. Later, talking with Chad after the boys went home with grandparents, he said that he woke up from anesthetic thinking about how he would look to the boys with all the tubes and IVs.
Overall, it was such a good learning experience for the boys as we described what the doctors did and why daddy had to have surgery - but, as with so many important lessons, it comes with some difficulties. The boys still do a daily inspection of daddy's scars and discuss if he is following the doctor's orders.
"Nurse" Michele Everson and mom to two wonderful boys!
